Public Relations & Content Creation for D1 Teams.
At Mizzou Athletics, being a Strategic Communications Intern means wearing a lot of hats! We had the opportunity to work on any and all of MU’s 20 sports teams! Within this role I contributed to the successful media and communications of the University of Missouri Athletic Department by writing articles and press releases, capturing social media content and hosting press conferences, capturing statistics and running the media suite. See below for a few examples.
Mizzou Athletics
Mizzou Football
I spent Saturdays on the sidelines of Faurot Field making Insta stories, assisting our photographers, collecting statistics, and of course cheering on our Tigers! I could be found in the press box creating media kits, writing tweets and preparing for press conferences.
Mizzou Gymnastics
Mizzou Gymnastics, my primary sport, allowed me to work one-on-one with the athletes in creating media content that showcases their team spirit, talent, and hard work. This position helped me to improve my sports photography skills while contributing to the public relations efforts of our department. Through writing meet notes, summaries and articles I brought unique value to the online content.
Mizzou Volleyball
MU’s volleyball team was excellent to work with! The meets are lively and energetic and the team gives a lot back to the community! The first event of the season was an outreach program for local students interested in the sport! Creating content for social and helping with the public relations efforts of the department allowed the intern team to meet our goals of publishing exceptional communications about the athletes, coaches, administrative staff and the team as a whole!

Mizzou Swim & Dive
Swim & Dive allowed me to create positive media content that displayed the team’s commitment to the community and encouraged attendance at meets. This position broadened my scope of sports related work and encouraged me to be creative with unique content.
Mizzou Wrestling
Working on so many different teams added a variety to the work and writing of our communications department! For each team and event Mizzou Athletics strives to bring exclusive offerings and events to the students. Interns were tasked with writing meet notes, capturing statistics and keeping score sheets, publishing articles and participating in public relations efforts!
